Sapporo, Hokkaido’s capital, is the home of the internationally renowned annual Sapporo Snow Festival, Sapporo beer and Sapporo ramen. The western area also boasts a number of pretty places including the port of Hakodate, which has charming historical areas and gorgeous night views, and the canal town of Otaru whose water network played a key role in the first half of the 20th century. Today, it offers scenic strolls and glassblowing experiences.
